History

May 12, 1994 Recorded resolution of the persons authorised by county governors for the establishment of the South-Estonian Tourism Development Foundation with an aim to create South-Estonian tourism region.

June 16, 1994 County governors of Tartu, Võru, Valga, Viljandi and Põlva counties entered into a cooperation agreement in the field of tourism.

March 3, 1995 The name was changed for South-Estonian Tourism Development Council because it was not possible to register a foundation.

May 15, 1995 South-Estonian tourism coordinator was employed.
September 11, 1997 County governors of Tartu, Põlva, Valga, Viljandi, Võru and Jõgeva counties entered into an agreement for the establishment of the South-Estonian Tourism.

Foundation to support:

  • the coordination of work in the field of tourism in South-Estonia;
  • the administration of tourism related databases and development of tourist products;
  • the organisation of regional advertising, statistics and marketing in the field of tourism as well as training programmes.

January 28, 1998 South-Estonian Tourism Foundation was established.

Cooperation priorities

  • Joint marketing of the region.
  • Development of tourist products.
  • Training programmes.

Marketing strategy

  • As far as possible overcome the seasonal factor.
  • Create and develop a common image of South-Estonia.
  • Cooperate in marketing with accommodation establishments and travel agencies.
  • Harmonise the quality of products.
